Great experience...

4 more days till a new semester begins. Yes, I stayed back in INTI this semester break...did not go back to Brunei though my bro went back for like less than a week? -.-" crazy guy. Surprisingly...this semester break wasn't boring at all!! Thought that the week after camp will be boring but I rarely have time to myself! Wanted a movie marathon but it never happened! Haven't settle my university application >.<"

Last week before I went for camp, had supper with my sir...and he said that FAS (Faculty of Science) needed students to be 'models' to pose in the lab. Guess its for INTI's biotech program or Australia Degree Transfer Science. And so far he knows I am the only one who is going to stay back for the semester break...so I agreed. Got an e-mail from Dr.Choong, a cute lecturer (he is short XD). During my A-levels practical examination, my burette keep leaking!! So he changed it for me TWICE! That's how I remember him! And when I told him, he was surprised because he said that I look familiar to him :P

Had our photo shoot on Tuesday, my seniors and I. They came all the way from KL o.O FYI, we are NOT paid to be 'models' in this photo shoot. Its voluntary. And I think that the photographer was paid by the hour so he took his own sweet time adjusting the light here and there -.-" We were suppose to pose for 9 experiments, but we managed to pose for half of them! #$@#%@

We were suppose to pose for...
1. Students using gel doc
2. Students performing chromatography with fraction collector
3. Students looking through a microscope (its not a normal microscope, its a huge electron microscope! I WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE AN INDIVIDUAL POSE FOR THIS BUT NOT ENOUGH TIME!)
4. Student performing plant tissue culture
5. Student loading horizontal gel electrophoresis
6. Student loading vertical gel electrophoresis
7. Students counting corn phenotype
8. Students inspecting blue-white colonies under a lamp
9. Students inspecting plant tissue culture

Hmm...so we posed for the gel doc, chromatography with fraction collector, plant tissue culture and horizontal gel electrophoresis. I posed for the chromatography with fraction collector with a senior and plant tissue culture with 2 others.

this is the blue-white colony. White color isn't that visible here. Used to detect if its a recombinant DNA or a non-recombinant DNA.

This is a genetically modified corn which was dried up. You can see some purple color there too. Unique eh? Imagine counting those -.-

Ahh this is the huge horizontal gel electrophoresis that took up most of the time! A dude did it, not me :). He had to pose when he takes up the sample, and another loading it...

Plant tissue culture! This is the sample of a successfully grown plantlet. Takes a long time to grow! And this year was the first time in INTI's history that it was successful *clap clap*

Ah hah! Plant tissue culture! Once the plantlets were transferred

The chromatography with fraction collector! The thing on the right is where we put the tubes, and we can set how many drops we want per tube and it will move to the next tube once the amount is obtained. Cool thing ;) That is how we obtain the color we want

We have no idea why a green solution was obtained...it should be yellow!

This is something we have not seen before in real life (only in the notes), a vertical gel electrophoresis! The gel is actually in between the 2 layers of glass, one thicker layer and another thin fragile glass. Its not easy removing the gel. The gel is located one at each end.

Marketing office did not pay us, nor did INTI. But we had to fill in an agreement form to allow our photos to be used. So Dr.Choong said that we shall not 'model' with our formal clothes and the other lab. Its a waste of time. Hope I am able to get the photos next time :D
P.S if you do recognize me in the newspaper or any media, do let me know!! Am not sure which picture will they be using and where
.
.
.
Dr Choong took us out to Ocean Village for lunch (out from his own pocket) and a particular lady working there is RUDE!! We refilled our pot of tea twice, and we wanted another refill after our meal. She said "no hot water". WTF?! HOW CAN A RESTAURANT NOT HAVE HOT WATER? So we took our own sweet time chatting then she gave us her moody face and moody tone and asked us to pay the bill because they wanna close the store. WTH?! How can they chase away customers! They usually close at 2.30pm and its only 3pm. Geeez. Went back to help clean up the lab and talked with him for hours! @.@ Dr.Choong wanted to make us of my friend and I, so he offered to teach us something on Thursday. But sadly, my friend had fever...so he can't make it.

I did...PLANT TISSUE CULTURE!! Worked on a blue African Violet. First time doing it, and it was great!! 1 secret for a plant tissue culture to be successful...no contamination! The lamniar flow is the most important part! Went to the lab early just to set up the laminar flow. Had to clean it with 70% ethanol at both sides and the surface. Closed it, and left the UV on while I went for lunch.

That is Dr.Choong. He looks better real life than here...seriously XD. Right infront of him is the laminar flow. He worked on one, I worked on the other. Equipments are to be sterilized at ALL times! As long as it is out of the laminar flow, and before putting it into the laminar flow. Wipe them with ethanol! Had to wipe the bunser burner too! And use the Aseptic technique that involves slight burning to the equipment to kill the remaining microorganisms. Even the plastic container at each side and the cover! Hands are to be washed with ethanol before handling anything. There are certain ways to follow to transfer the plantlets in and out of the container to the petri dish! Just ensure that there is no crossing over, and do not use your dirty hands to touch the petri dish!

I did 3 samples of plant tissue culture. The plantlets are still small though, and Im suppose to cut up the big plantlets from its bottom shoot. O well ><. And they are to be put upright in the gel, which I didn't in some...

This is part of Biotechnology. Guess he wanted us to try and see how we feel about it. Well, he said it was my first time and I cut the plantlets really nicely :D. And first impression, he said I looked like a Biomed student T.T why...
Had a great experience working on this, don't be jealous! You'll get your chance someday ;P

Another blessing!

I AM REALLY HAPPY!! ^^

Results are out on the 29th midnight!! (Right after I came back from CC)...hohoho! I shall say, I did quite well! Will be getting an excellence award! First ever in INTI!! :D last semester was a short semester,so no award. And previously I did A-levels, no award too. Been studying hard for this exam (5 subjects, what to do?), so I am 100% going overseas next year! As long as visa is approved...Will it be Australia or New Zealand? We'll see by then...^^ its like a dream come true... big thanks to my classmates for supporting me & Luke who is my so-called-study-partner :D

So blessed!

Long post, but something worth reading
Friday night, right after exam...went to KL and stayed over at KL Plaza with my classmates (Baiks&Buruks). Karaoke-d...slept for less than 2 hours...went to Genting for a day trip, it rained there which was bad, didn't get to sit all the rides because we were all tired, corkscrew and spinner were close too -.- however, i finally sat on the flying coaster!! it was awesome! Stayed at Cherrie's at Ampang on the same day too ^^ . A fun yet tiresome trip...

KL Plaza~

Baiks&Buruks <3>At Cherrie's place :)

BUT...ICF Camp 2009 was better! :) story telling time!
This camp, was no doubt better than the ICF Camp 2008. Its not about the fun part...every camp is fun. Its the 'blueprint review'...aka message session. And interesting photos, though there is only 22 of us ;) Camp was held at Harvest Haven. Its in an estate area in Gopeng, Perak. Sounds like a bad place huh? Estate with palm trees and cow dung everywhere...but its a great place!

It was a 4 days, 3 night camp. Swam for 3 days in a row...!! pool was highly chlorinated though...it spoiled my hair TT.
.

What the speaker (pastor caleb) ministered that speaks to me was 'Character Formation'.
-We mature through trials.
-Challenges help us to grow.
-Have a listening heart.
-Acceptance of prosperity & poverty.
-Overcoming TEMPTATION!!

The next one was 'Things that destroy relationship'. Well, he diverted it to the boy-girl context.
-Non-christians always wonder why Christians must have a christian partner, well... we have a common faith...we need that more than common interst.
-We must becareful of destructive words (i need to work on that, I do get uptight easily when I am angry).
- Power of community; see how they relate to other people.

-Great love is a great communicator.
-
Is God in the relationship?? For this, what I've learn is that HE must be in the relationship before it even started, not bringing HIM into it once you start. Its just like in the bible during the war between the Israelites and the Philistines...the Israelites brought in the Ark of Covenant later during the war, and they lost. Same context.
- Free from defilement
-Guys should LISTEN
-Be fruitful!
What the speaker mentioned..."how do you feel when a guy says I don't want you..." I can't take it when he said that, it really hits me. Guess he knew something too. He also said that they can't take it back once they said it.

After this session, the speaker prayed for each of us...and he doesn't go praying from one end to another, but he knows who to start off with. So happened, I was the first...and what he prayed about, hits me hard again. Before he prayed, he asked ShuJin to hug me and he prayed for me. He knows who to choose. I did not tell anyone what happened yet, only ShuJin knows because we stayed in the same room and she asked me. Though I am not so close to her, and i am closer to some other girls. I can't remember everything that he say, because I was sobbing then. But he said 'though I might have shame, felt dirty and guilt in the past...God still loves me for who I am. He knows the hurt and pain I have gone through'. Theres many more that he said...

PSALMS 25:7 "Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O Lord."
.
.
.
and another session, it was about 'wisdom'
He asked me if I do know what does my name means. Yes I do (: Sophia = woman of wisdom
. He asked me to come up as he wanted to pray specifically for me about this and said that I
will Live life with wisdom. Live up to my name!! .
.
.
.
Game time!

team building game (its not as easy as it seems!)

Sharing time...
my heart was really heavy and I need to say it out, an unexplainable feeling. It is unusual for me to share something, because I do not really share out stuff as I got nothing to share. I was looking forward to ICF Camp ever since I heard of it since this will most probably be the last ICF camp I will be attending. Once the registration booth was up, I signed up for it. I signed up ALONE, no one close in CF went with me as most of the close friends I had in CF left, and some couldn't make it. Most people joined this in pairs, they had a close friend with them. But I do know 95% of the people who were in camp. Something happened on Friday itself, the last day of exam...and my mood went straight down. But felt better after the trip with my classmates. When I came back on Sunday, I did not receive any sms from the camp committee ; where to meet, what time, what to bring and the camp is on Wednesday!! I need to pack! Was so down that I told myself...if I do not get any news from them, I will not go for the camp though I paid for it (RM 120). Went and checked my email, and I got an email telling everything I wanted to know. So even if anything happen, I will go for this camp. I was expecting this to come, just 1 day before the camp...Jared and I broke up. I just gotta tell out since sooner or later, they will know. (If you wanna know the reason, you can just ask me personally through MSN yea...). No hard feelings, really. I got over it I guess...and yes, its amazing how i got over it so fast. So Eric asked me if I still wanna go for camp...since I just had this 'trauma'. Yes, I will. And I had no regrets coming to this camp! And I want to gain more wisdom, knowledge and experience to share wtih people :) I am blessed!!
